Thank you all so much for supporting our business! My story is actually pretty interesting! I was born in the heart of Massachusetts in Boston. My whole family lived there for their whole lives! Around the time I was 10 I moved out to San Diego, California. Now, I live in Maryland, where I found my passion for designing and creating, as well as my business partner and best friend, Katy! My love for creating started when I was 5 years old, where I would constantly be making bracelets, pot holders, clay sculptures, jewlery, and so much more. This passion continued to grow as I got older. I worked on growing this passion while balancing being a full-time student athlete, playing lacrosse at Hood College located in Frederick MD. Here, I was a captain for 3 years and consistently was making a variety of things for my team, creating team bonding activities, and always had new ideas and inspirations to create. In this time, I also began my teaching career through student teaching experiences. There was so much opportunity to create and make others happy and I just couldn’t pass up on that. That feeling that I get when I make something that others are excited about just cannot be beat. This is just a little bit about me and where my story started and how it unfolded. We are so happy you have found your way to our little space on the internet! We want you to feel welcome here so I’ll introduce myself. My name is Katy. I was born & raised in Virginia Beach, VA. One of my favorite memories is going to the craft shows at the convention center every year with my mom, grandma and aunts To see all these people put their creations on display is a very vivid memory. It was inspiring. I’ve always had a big creative bone in my body & of course my favorite subject was always art. Fast forward to when my family moved to Frederick, MD when I was a senior in high school. Frederick is also a very creative place. I met my hubby shortly after starting my second semester in college. We have 2 kids; Samuel who is 10 and in 5th grade and Thomas who is 5 and just started kindergarten. Thomas is my sweet little miracle baby. He has special needs and needs a lot of special attention. For 5 years I solely focused on being a neurotypical Mom and a special needs Mom. I allowed that to somehow leave little room for my first love, which was creating. my helper, turned best friend, turned business partner, kenzie was crafting fun stuff while she was helping me with thomas, which peaked my interest. As soon as Thomas started school, I had all this free time and honestly did not know what to do with it. As moms, we forget that there were things that made us, us before kids. After Kenzie told me so many times that I should get a cutting machine, I ran out of reasons not to. I was scared. What if I didn’t love creating anymore? What if it would be too much and too overwhelming? But that wasnt the case. It sparked something back into me that had been tucked away for so long. I was creating again. With my love language being gift giving and making things that bring people joy, Kenzie and I thought what would be the perfect way to do what we enjoy doing and getting it into others hands around the country. Thats when Kindly Kurated.co was born
